Newton Falls – May 2, sunny and 72°, finally a perfect morning for Kiwanis’s much anticipated event.  Eighty participants, ages 6-12, competed on the “field of dreams” in the track and field competition.  All who registered received a commemorative t-shirt, and some won medals and/or ribbons for their three events.  Newton Falls Band Boosters provided concessions; we wanted to help them reach their goal of new band uniforms.

Seven events were held from 9-10:30 a.m.:  long jump, obstacle course, softball throw (for distance and accuracy).  Everyone then went to the track for the 25-meter, 50-meter, 100-meter, and 200-meter races which lasted until noon.

Kiwanis would like to thank Newton Falls Schools and the Board of Education for use of the facilities, and Coach Brian Bugos and the high school track team for their crucial help to make the day a smooth-running success.  Thank you to Newton Falls Elementary School and NF Middle School for distributing entry forms.

The club would like to thank new member Karen Rutan who designed the obstacle course.  We thank Zack Hogue, who announced upcoming events on the P.A. system, and then read all the winners’ names for the award ceremony.  Other helpers included friend of Kiwanis Cindi Lestingi at the registration booth.  Michael Lestingi, who was visiting from Washington, D.C., helped distribute t-shirts.  Thank you to Positive Images for assisting with the t-shirts. We’d like to thank parents for encouraging the children to compete.  We hope everyone enjoyed themselves.

Kiwanis welcomes new members.  Consider coming to a meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays (except the last Tuesday of the month) at Covered Bridge Inn Restaurant, 22 W. Broad Street.
