Mantua – At their last meeting in 2020, Council approved Ordinance 2020-54, which amended Ordinance 2019-49, the “Mantua Village, County of Portage Water and Sanitary Sewer Systems Transfer Agreement” that was struck down by voters last year. This agreement has been amended, and “overwhelmingly approved by residents,” according to Councilman Matt Rosolowski.

Council also approved Resolution 2020-55 a resolution authorizing the Mayor and Clerk-Treasurer to prepare and submit application materials to the Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC) for the Northeast Quadrant Waterline Replacement Project Phase I. Similarly; Council approved Resolution 2020-56 accepting the low bid of $367,460.00 from Woodford Excavating LLC for the West Prospect Street Roadway and Drainage Improvements Phase II.

Lastly, council approved Resolution 2020-57 authorizing the Portage County Auditor’s Office to disburse delinquent water and sewer assessments collected via real property tax payments to Portage County Water Resources.

In other news, Councilman Scott Weaver shared that the Service Committee is investigating the Village’s ability to certify funds to repair 3,200 feet of Canada Road instead of the proposed 1,600 feet originally planned. He noted the need to reevaluate finances in February to ascertain whether this is possible. In other news, Weaver noted investigating the possibility of requesting FEMA funding to move the old Middlefield Bank building.

On behalf of the Parks & Shade Tree Committee, Marty Hura noted receiving a proposed project list from the DMRC and noted that the Park Board is not taking on additional projects until those in process have been completed. He noted that the Park Board will not meet until March 2021.

Mayor Clark noted that Dollar General has had all four variances approved, with a second site plan review due. In response to resident comments of how Dollar General “doesn’t fit with the village” voiced by Councilwoman Paula Tubalkain, Mayor Clark noted that the chain has modified the proposed store’s elevation, changed their lighting, and have moved the location of the dumpster to make the store more aesthetically pleasing. She suggested that council members view the new site plans for clarification. Lastly, Mayor Clark noted that the Circle K store closed as of December 13th. She noted that the building has been sold, but she isn’t certain what the new owners plan to do with the space.

Village Council held their 2021 organizational meeting on January 5th. Their next regularly-scheduled meeting will take place on Tuesday, January 19th at 6:30 pm. Visit mantuavillage.com to access the live-streamed meeting.
