Mystery, Laughter, and Community Spirit Highlight NGCC Fundraiser

The Nelson Garrettsville Community Cupboard’s annual fundraiser had guests laughing, sleuthing, and celebrating Saturday evening as Murder at the Slurp and Burp Oktoberfest left attendees guessing “who dunnit?”

Presented by Curtains Up Theatre, the interactive murder mystery was written and directed by Jackie Rinearson and performed by a talented cast of local actors and actresses. Their witty performances and clever plot twists kept the audience engaged from start to finish.

The evening wasn’t just about solving the mystery — it was also about supporting a cause close to home. The fundraiser helps sustain the Nelson Garrettsville Community Cupboard (NGCC) through the winter months, ensuring local families have access to food and essentials when they need them most.

Guests enjoyed a hearty Oktoberfest-style dinner featuring pierogis, bratwurst, pretzels, and potato salad — a combination that proved to be a hit with the crowd.

Adding to the excitement were more than 50 Chinese auction baskets, each one donated and creatively assembled by community members and local businesses. The generosity didn’t stop there — one lucky attendee walked away with more than $250 from the evening’s 50/50 raffle.

The NGCC board members extended their heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended, donated, and volunteered. Their continued support helps make a difference in the lives of neighbors throughout the community.

“Events like this show what a caring and connected community we live in,” said one NGCC representative. “We’re so grateful for everyone who helps us continue our mission.”
