Mantua – At their February meeting, the MSFD Board welcomed one full-time firefighter and three part-time firefighters. Full-time firefighter Jacob Bennett was sworn in by Fire Chief Matt Roosa, while Assistant Chief Chris Mullins officiated the swearing-in of part-time firefighters Tyler Hill, Timothy Kollman, and Matthew Thompson. In other news, the board accepted a letter of resignation from firefighter Brooke Stamm.

Next, Lieutenant Ken Justus presented the board with a breakdown of the incidents the Department has responded to in 2017. He shared that the total calls for 2017 was 1,421 — the most calls the department has received on record. The highest volume of calls came from Shalersville, followed by Mantua Township and Mantua Village.He noted that any day that received seven or more calls is considered a ‘high incident day’. He noted that March was the busiest month last year, having received 138 calls that month. The most frequent calls were for EMS assistance. He also noted that the department responded to 32 overdoses last year.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the MSFD Board will be held on Monday, April 9th at 6 pm; residents are encouraged to attend.
