Mini Golf At The Library

Ravenna – If you were asked to list the activities you expect to do at a library, might the list include read and research? Most likely.  Might it include Miniature Golf. Not likely at all.  Yet, that is exactly what will be occurring at Reed Memorial Library on November 20 and 21.  Intrigued? You bet this reporter is!

The event is hosted by the Reed Memorial Library Foundation.  The Foundation started in 2009, to create a lasting endowment for the library.  Over the years, they have reached out to friends and family of the library, seeking donations and legacy gifts.  The Foundation’s Mission is to ‘provide a legacy for future generations of library usage, expansion and capital improvements.’ Indeed, it has been a fruitful foundation, the building has been updated as recently as 2006. Our library is known as the Jewel of Ravenna!  Come on in and take a peek, browse the stacks, enjoy a movie or cd, play a video game.  Other services include meeting rooms, digital help, copying and fax, and many more!  Would it be worth an evening of fun to help?

Saturday, November 20, the library will be transformed into a miniature golf course.  Holes sponsored by businesses, families and friends of the library will be set up throughout the stacks.  Appropriate golf clubs will be available.  Appetizers will be served, all while a live jazz combo provides the musical backdrop.  There will even be a caricature artist!  However did they get the idea to turn the library into a golf course for the weekend?

Foundation member Diana Kentner, explains how this came to be. Every year, 2020 excepted, the Foundation holds a fundraising event.  As this will be the first time in two years, they wanted to make it extra special, so Diana and company went on a digital quest.  They happened upon a site, wwwminigolf.com.  Founder Rick Bolton began doing fundraisers for libraries flooded by gulf coast hurricanes.  This concept emanated from there.

The adult night runs 6:00pm to 9:00pm.  This is a 21 and over event.  Cost is $50.00 per person, which includes golf, beverages and appetizers.  Caricature Artist Ron Hill will be on hand to make memorable sketches for you. You can find out more information about him at ronhillartist.com.  For your musical pleasure, Jazz By Design Combo will be playing on the Mezzanine, overlooking the stacks.  This is a jazz combo, comprised of retired band teachers. Look them up at jazzbydesigncombo.com.  The event will be catered by Eisele Catering from Mantua.  Their offerings have been described as ‘top notch.’ Yum!  West Main Winery will be furnishing the libations.  There is also a basket raffle planned.

Looking for family fun?  The Reed Memorial Library Foundation has you covered.  Why turn the library into a golf course just for one night?  The following day, November 21, the Foundation will host a family version from 1:30pm to 4:30pm. Tickets are six dollars per person, or a family pack of 4 tickets for twenty dollars.  There will be age-appropriate prizes and snacks available. Children five and under golf for free!

Special thanks to Hometown Bank of Ravenna and Myers Appliance, who are the primary sponsors for this event.  For everyone’s safety, all appropriate COVID Protocols will be observed.  Masks are required. More information is available at reedlibrary.org.

Curious?  Intrigued? So is this reporter.  You can reserve tickets by leaving a message at 330-730- 4512, or digitally at reedmemorialfoundation@gmail.com.  You also can pay at the door with cash or a check made out to Reed Memorial Library Foundation.  One could even have date night on Saturday, then Family Day on Sunday!  A great way to have some fun and support a great cause.  See you there!
