Middlefield – When one thinks of a Summerfest they think of blue skies, a balmy 80°, food, live entertainment and just good ole fun, and that was just what the committee for Middlefield Summerfest had in mind when they planned the event. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans. Cloudy skies blanketed the area Saturday, along with on and off showers throughout the day, but the soggy weather didn’t put a damper on Middlefield Summerfest. It went off without a hitch under a sea of umbrellas.
Saturday started off early with an Amish Buggy classic 5K race led by an Amish buggy. The parade stepped off at 1pm with Parade Marshal Roy Rogers Jr. (aka Dusty Rogers) leading the way through the rain. The parade, which lasted for about an hour had 70 plus units from batons to unicycles, floats, fire trucks and more.
The crowd grew anxious as they waited to hear the famous Roy Rogers sing the National Anthem as the color guards raised “Old Glory “ to wave over the village for the festivities.
Many folks sought out venders for lunch and it appeared the fried Swiss cheese on a stick was a big contender as they seemed to have a line a good part of the day. Vinney’s Pizza served up some great pizza, pasta and scrumptious meatball sandwiches to give all a great Saturday afternoon lunch. To wash all that great food down one could have had a soda or fresh lemonade.
Besides food, there were various vendors showcasing their wares and businesses highlighting their products and services.
Raelynn DeBevits performed and then emceed the Middlefield Has Talent Too Contest. Congratulations to the winners of the talent contest: 1st – Abby Petersen; 2nd – Angelina Jones; 3rd – Kelly Tapager
There were plenty of activities for the young and young at heart. Kids could take a ride on the barrel train sponsored by the Trumbull County Antique Tractor Club, burn off extra energy in the bounce house and watch a magic show by Magic Mark, while adults could enter the cornhole tournament, or dunk a cop in the dunk tank, to help raise funds for the “Shop with a Cop Program.” The evening came to a close, with folks gathering around to listen to great music by “Alter Ego” and “The Round to Its” as they waited on the grand finale, the fireworks.
