Mantua – At Council’s last meeting, Mayor Clark and Police Chief Joe Urso presented a Proclamation honoring the village’s Head Dispatcher.
Mayor Clark noted, “Today marks the end of an era. Linda Wilke, our Head Dispatcher, retired after almost 31 years with the Mantua Police Department.” Wilke was presented with a Proclamation at the May Council Meeting, a day that was officially named as “Linda Wilke Day”. Mayor Clark noted that Wilke’s tenure with the department lasted through five Mayors, two Police Chiefs, and countless officers and dispatchers. Clark noted, “Over the years, Linda impacted the department’s employees in their professional life, as well as their personal lives.” Mayor Clark and Council thanked Wilke for her years of service to the village and wished her well on her retirement.
The Soap Box Derby returns to Mantua on Saturday, June 18th. That day, East High Street near Buchert Park will be closed to traffic; Soap Box cars will utilize the road during the day-long competition. Soap Box Derby Race fans are also invited to attend a Soap Box Derby Rally Race later this summer. The event takes place at Buchert Park the weekend of August 27th & 28th, so mark your calendars!
In other news, Village Administrator Mary Ann Fabian noted that the Canada Road paving project will cover 1,500 feet instead of the originally planned 1,600 feet due to an increase in the cost of asphalt. The road improvement will continue along the roadway to the bridge closest to State Route 44. Lastly, the DMRC will sign an interagency agreement with the village to cover costs not to exceed $30,000 for Buchert Park Phase Four.
The next Village Council meeting will take place on Tuesday, June 21st at 6:30 pm; residents are encouraged to attend.
