Mantua – At the last meeting, Mayor Linda Clark urged residents to review a draft of the document that outlines the details of the proposed transfer agreement of the Village’s water and wastewater facilities to Portage County for operation. The document notes that should the ordinance be approved, each account will be allocated a monthly surcharge of roughly $87 per account that would be applied to the repairs to the village’s system until such time that the repairs and updates have been completed. According to representatives from the county, the surcharge has been capped; they hope to reduce the charge year-to-year based on improvements to the system, as well as any grants or loans that are received. Mayor Clark noted that Ordinance 2019-49, which specifies the details, would be on third reading at council’s next meeting on November 19th at 6:30 pm.

In other news, residents are asked to fill out a confidential survey created by the Portage County Regional Planning Commission. The information obtained through this survey will help determine whether the Portage County commissioners can solicit grants that could help Mantua residents, and is based on income rates of local residents. Residents are asked to answer as accurately as possible, and are assured that all information provided will remain confidential. If you have any questions about this survey or how it will be used, please contact the Portage County Regional Planning Commission at 330-297-3613 Monday through Friday between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm. You may access the survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/BLPZXLD.

Once village council unanimously approved the purchase, the Mantua Potato Festival Committee presented a donation of $800 to help cover some of the costs of the K9 program. The police department extended sincere gratitude to the Potato Festival Committee for supporting this worthy and necessary cause.

Lastly, village council will be holding a public hearing for zoning amendments on November 19th at 6:15 pm in council chambers. The purpose of the hearing will be to discuss Ordinance 2019-39, regarding implementing a program of residential rental unit inspections.
