Mantua Twp. – At a recent meeting in Mantua Township, the trustees announced that Spring Clean Up will be held on May 3rd from 7 am to 4 pm. Dumpsters will be available across from the Township Garage on Mantua Center Road for township residents to dispose of any unwanted items. Later in May, the township will provide document-shredding services to residents. The tentative date set for shredding is May 17th.

Zoning Inspector John Dickey requested that trustees pass a resolution approving the prosecution of PJP Enterprises for zoning violations relating to equipment storage at the Timber Trail development. The resolution was approved. Mr. Dickey also reported that he has been receiving an increased number of calls and emails from realtors and appraisers.

Jim Aldrich, Cemetery Sexton, reported that the cemetery signs have been refurbished, and thanked the Road Crew and residents for their work in beautifying the cemetery. He also thanked the road crew for handling the winter burials, noting that the mini-excavator purchased in late fall was very helpful for that purpose.

Frank Horak, on behalf of the Veterans’ Memorial Committee, reported that the plaques denoting the branches of service would be affixed to the monument prior to the Memorial’s dedication on Memorial Day. According to Mr. Horak, the Dedication plans are on track, with the Fire Department, the VFW, and Crestwood High School Marching Band on board. More details on the ceremony will be forthcoming at the next meeting.

Brian Tayerle reported that he and the road crew are compiling a list of township roads that need crack seal and/or chip seal work. He’ll be bringing the list to the next trustee meeting to review whether it would be more cost-effective to have his crew do the work, or hire an outside contractor.

In other news, Trustees discussed an Ohio Department of Transportation paving project that involves resurfacing portions of State Route 82 & 303. More specifically, the project includes the resurfacing of SR 82 from just east of SR 44 to the Trumbull County line. This project also includes minor bridge repairs to six bridges on SR 82 and one bridge on SR 303, according to ODOT. The project, which encompasses the communities of Windham, Hiram & Mantua Townships, and the Villages of Hiram & Garrettsville, should be completed by October 2014.  In addition, portions of SR 44 in the Village of Mantua will be resurfaced, with road closure lasting a maximum of 75 days to accommodate repairs to the bridge.

The next meeting of the Mantua Township Trustees will be held on Thursday, April 17th at 7:30 pm at the Township Hall.
