Mantua Township Historic Cemeteries Restoration Project

741

Mantua Twp. – Calling all history buffs, archaeologists, cemetery associations, township representatives, and even leprechauns – the young and the older!

On Tuesday March 17, 2020, the Mantua Township Historic Cemeteries Restoration Committee is hosting guest speaker, Dr. Jarrod Burks.  Dr. Burks works for Ohio Valley Archaeology and is also President of Heartland Earthworks Conservancy, a 501©3 nonprofit organization. His skills have been used on a world-wide scale – including Tunisia and North Africa.

Dr. Burks will present the group with information regarding such procedures as GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar, used to detect unmarked graves, among many other things), other processes that can be used to locate unmarked graves, and will present a power-point program on a few of his projects and their stories.

The Mantua Township Historic Cemeteries Committee has been tasked with evaluation, research, and with professional help, restoring applicable gravesites.  They are represented by both the Mantua Historical Society and the Mantua Restoration Society, Inc., but membership and meetings are open to the public.

ALL are welcome to join the group at 7pm Tuesday, March 17, at the Mantua Township Town Hall, 4122 State Rt. 82, at the corner of Mantua Center Road and State Rt. 82 on the Historic Mantua Center Green.

There will NOT be Irish Beer, however, refreshments will be served.  Join us for what will be an interesting and informative program.
