Mantua – At their last meeting, Frank Ruehr, Fire Board Representative from Shalersville thanked voters for supporting the levy in November’s election. Jason Carlton, Fire Board Representative from Mantua Township, concurred, adding, “We’ll try to live up to the public’s expectations and spend their tax dollars wisely.”
Fire Chief Matt Roosa added, “I’m grateful to taxpayers of the Fire District for the great turn out at the precincts, and for supporting their Fire District.” The Chief added, “to those who voted no, or didn’t cast a vote, I hope in the future we can show you what this fire department means to our community. We will continue to strive to give you nothing but the best service and support that you deserve going forward into the future.” Chief Roosa noted that as promised, the money raised by the levy would primarily be used to maintain current staffing levels and add additional personnel.
In other news, the chief noted that the department is looking to fill several part-time firefighter/EMT positions. He noted that interviews were currently in progress with five applicants. He’ll notify the Board when the positions are filled.
In other news, MSFD firefighters recently visited the Crestwood Primary and Intermediate Schools to serve as special guest helpers in the cafeteria. Firefighters served a special Thanksgiving-themed lunch to those who bought lunch. Several firefighters also sat in the cafeteria to enjoy lunch with the children as well. The Department was invited to visit the schools by Crestwood Food Services Director Jennifer Bujak-Hirsch.
The next MSFD Board meeting will be held on December 10th at 6 pm; at that time, a new full-time firefighter/EMT will be sworn in.
