Mantua Historical Society Discusses Nature

701

At the last meeting of the Mantua Historical Society, to commemorate Earth Day,  Matt Sorrick, Director of the Center for Science Education at Hiram College spoke on “Do Mother Nature a Favor: Take a kid outside, and they just might change the world!”.  Kids now spend 27% of their day in front of some type of screen.  They spend less than 30 minutes a day in unstructured time outside; hence childhood obesity is up, and vision (yes vision!) could be impaired.

The organization’s next meeting is Sunday, May 19th, 7:00 p.m., at the Mantua Center Town Hall, on the historic Mantua Center Green (corner of S. R. 82 and Mantua Center Road).  Members will be bringing in memorabilia of veterans and current military to be on display in honor of Memorial Day.  The museum will be open for tours, and light refreshments will be served.
