Louise Marie (Lange) Styron, 79, passed away Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna.
Louise was born October 27, 1938 in Shalersville Township, Ohio to the late Robert and Rose (Pinter) Lange. She grew up on the family farm in Freedom Township, Ohio and resided in Ravenna for nearly 50 years. Louise was a 1956 graduate of James A. Garfield High School where she was honored to be Homecoming Queen and to proudly represent her school as a member of the Scholarship Team for English. She later attended Ohio University. Louise was an avid reader and grammarian in both English and Spanish, and loved jazz, dancing, singing, reading the encyclopedia, and maintaining her enviable yard filled with carefully tended trees and flowers. Louise was also a consummate cook, famous in the family for her pies and homemade potato salad. In addition to raising her two children, Joey & Laurie, her granddaughter, Rose, and her great-grandson, Carter, Louise provided childcare in her home for over two decades. Many well-spoken, well-mannered adults have Louise to thank for these qualities, and many still think of her as a second mom. Always looking a good 20 years younger than her age, Louise lived an active and self-sufficient life until August of 2018. She passed away peacefully in the presence of her daughter and daughter-in-law while listening to the greatest hits of one of her favorite singers, Nat King Cole.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her brothers Robert and Fred Lange. Survivors include her children, Joseph Styron, Jr. of Ravenna, and his wife Kelly (Clark) Styron, who selflessly cared for Louise in her final months of life; and by her daughter and son-in-law, Laurie Styron and Ben Perkins of Chicago; her granddaughter, Rose Styron; and her great-grandson, Carter Styron-Smith. Louise is also survived by her sisters Elaine (Charles) Duffield, Carolyn (Edward) Unaitis, Barbara (Barry) Crawford, and by her sisters-in-law Beverly Lange and Betty Lange. Louise will also be missed by her large extended family, friends, and neighbors.
A Celebration of Louise’s Life will be held on what would have been her 80th birthday, October 27th, 2018, from 2-4pm at the Freedom Township Hall: 8966 S.R. 700, Ravenna, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Louise’s honor to a charity of your choice. A private burial will take place at a later date at the family plot in Riverside Cemetery, Shalersville.
