Garrettsville – Countryside Veterinary Service used to be a quiet little clinic tucked away at the former Stonewall Veterinary Hospital location on Mills Road. In the two weeks since it has moved to 10327 South Street, foot traffic has tripled.
Co-owner Dr. Bob Baugher says, “We couldn’t be more excited and more proud to offer this location to our existing clients in Garrettsville and the surrounding areas. For nearly 40 years, we have been offering the highest quality veterinary care at an affordable price. With this new location, we are able to offer the best diagnostics and latest treatments available to our clients’ pets.”
Countryside will host an Open House on Saturday, May 4, 9 a.m.-12 p.m., so people can enjoy light refreshments while getting acquainted with the new facility and staff.
What prompted the move was the need for more exposure in a better location, Dr. Baugher explains. “We were pretty hidden up in Nelson. With this location, we are in a really nice spot next to Mrs. Paul’s daycare, across from a reputable Ford dealership and near a really nice high school facility (Garfield). We got lucky on this one!”
The former building was over 40 years old, small, outdated and inefficient — unable to accommodate a surgical suite or diagnostic capabilities. The fairly new facility — a former physician’s office — is now highly visible on the curve along State Route 88. Along with a generous parking lot, it offers twice the floor space, including three exam rooms and a surgical suite. New services include in-house x-ray and ultrasound diagnostics, bloodwork, dental care and even acupuncture.
“We didn’t change the floor plan at all,” say veterinarians Jeri Clapp, DVM and Jenny Dunlap, DVM. “We just moved right in and filled all the space that used to be used for human patients. Now those former patients are coming back here with their pets. It’s their doctor’s office now!”
Dr. Baugher shares, “Dr. Dunlap grew up and still lives locally in West Farmington, has been with Countryside her entire career (over 10 years) and is one of the most down-to-earth and compassionate veterinarians on this planet. She has a big heart and treats clients like family.”
Dr. Clapp grew up locally in Brimfield, moved away to Colorado, and now lives in Shalersville. She says Garrettsville feels like ‘home’ to her. Dr. Baugher shares that Dr. Clapp “is an outstanding veterinarian with around 30 years experience and enjoys the bond she creates with clients.”
Along with receptionist Pam Schiller and veterinary technicians Matilda Mikolon, Alicia Ramirez and Karen Burianek, the vets have their hands full with the bustling new schedule at Countryside. They agree, “We’re so happy to be here, we’re open for business and we’re ready to help with everyone’s pets!”
The clinic treats domestic mammals of all sizes; chiefly small pets like dogs, cats, guinea pigs and other pocket pets; but also livestock like sheep, goats, cattle, horses and more. Dr. Clapp includes acupuncture in her repertoire —- an effective, non-pharmaceutical option when traditional methods of treatment have been exhausted. Acupuncture relieves an array of chronic conditions — not just joint and muscle pain — but also kidney failure, heart disease and respiratory distress.
Countryside is open 8 a.m.-7 p.m. on Mondays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, and 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturdays. (Hours subject to change due to demand.) Appointments can be scheduled by calling (330) 527-4400. The Countryside Veterinary Service Facebook page is another way to stay in touch and to enjoy Pet of the Day posts with featured photos.
This clinic is one of several Countryside Veterinary Service locations co-owned by Dr. Baugher, Dr. Jeffrey Williams and Dr. Jeffrey Clayton. In 2012, the Countryside group purchased Stonewall Veterinary Hospital from Dr. Robert Jackson. In addition to the Garrettsville location, the Countryside group also owns clinics in Kinsman, Champion, Warren, Middlefield, and Jamestown, Pennsylvania.
