Letter To The Editor:

I am completely offended by your article in the Villager (Sept 2,2022).

As the parent of a transman, I’d like you to know that MJ was harrassed at school by teachers, administrators and fellow students because he did not follow gender norms.

He did not grow up to swing in trees or to be an ape.

He worked for social justice, he helped people beat addiction and he worked to rid people of the misconceptions that children and people’s personalities, dress, dreams, etc. are based on their genitalia.
You may turn to rumors and catch phrases to write your articlesm, but your transphobia hurts real people.

Ellen Eckhouse

From The Owners,

It is unacceptable that a transphobic opinion column appeared in last week’s edition of The Weekly Villager. The opinion expressed is harmful to the Trans and greater LGBTQIA+ community, and their allies. The opinion expressed in the column in no way reflects the outlook of the Weekly Villager or our owners.
The column will be removed from our online pdf version, and will not appear on our website.

We sincerely apologize to members of the Trans community and their allies, and see this as an opportunity to do better.
