This letter is to present information to inform the residents of the Village of Garrettsville, Freedom Township, and Nelson Township about Issue 30. Issue 30 will be on the ballot for the November 4, 2025, election.
What is the Levy?
Issue 30 – “An additional tax for the benefit of the Community Emergency Medical Services District for the purpose of providing ambulance service, emergency medical service, or both that the county auditor estimates will collect $552,734 annually, at a rate not exceeding 2 mills for each $1 of taxable value, which amounts to $70 for each $100,000 of the county auditor’s appraised value, for 5 years, commencing in 2025, first due in calendar year 2026.”
Why do we need the levy?
Staffing. Plain and simple, we need more.
We have a nice station, we have nice ambulances, and we have good equipment. All of it is useless if we do not have staff to use it. We are getting more calls every year. Since 2010, Community EMS District has seen a 58% increase in calls. This includes not only calls in our district, but mutual aid to other departments, as well.
