I am writing to you as the Chairman of the Mantua Potato Festival Committee, with a heartfelt request to bring an urgent matter before the eyes of our beloved community through your esteemed publication.

For over 50 years, the Mantua Potato Festival has been a vibrant thread in the fabric of our village’s life. It is a celebration that goes beyond the bounds of a mere annual event; it is a living history, a showcase of our agricultural roots, and a testament to the ingenuity and camaraderie of our people. This year, we are poised to celebrate the 51st festival, a milestone that marks more than just longevity—it symbolizes the enduring spirit of Mantua.

However, this year’s festival is under threat due to critical safety concerns with the electrical infrastructure at the park. The cost for necessary upgrades is estimated between $12,000 to $25,000. Without these repairs, the festival cannot proceed, and we risk losing not only a significant cultural event but also an economic driver for our local businesses.

The Mantua Potato Festival has always been a labor of love, supported by the unwavering dedication of volunteers and the generous backing of local sponsors. It is a time when our community comes together to celebrate, share, and create memories that last a lifetime. The impact of the festival extends beyond the park’s boundaries, as it significantly boosts the local economy, drawing visitors who patronize our shops, restaurants, and services.

As we face this challenge, I am reaching out to the community through your newspaper to seek support and solutions. We are calling for an emergency meeting with the Village Council to discuss potential funding avenues and to mobilize community efforts to save our festival.

I would like to extend a special invitation to all supporters of the Mantua Potato Festival to attend the next regularly scheduled Mantua Village Council Meeting, which will be held on June 18, 2024, at 6pm. Your presence and voice are crucial as we discuss the future of our beloved festival.

I invite the residents of Mantua to join us in preserving this cornerstone of our heritage. Whether it is through ideas, volunteer work, or financial contributions, every bit of support counts. Let us come together to ensure that the Mantua Potato Festival continues to be a source of pride and joy for our village.

Thank you for considering this letter for publication. It is my hope that by sharing our story, we can unite the community and secure the future of a tradition that holds a special place in the hearts of many.

With warmest regards and deepest affection for our Mantua,

Andrea Selvaggio

Chairman

Mantua Potato Festival Association
