Learning Opportunities at Garrettsville Library

You’re invited to attend free and open to the public learning opportunities at the Garrettsville Library. On Saturday, September 29 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm we’ll host another program of the widely-popular Crafting with Marian series. Using a bottle of nail polish, participants will learn how to create an artistic marbling effect on small ceramic pieces. Participants are being encouraged to bring one of their own pieces to paint as well. However, those interested in attending should note that there will be a strong odor in the room, emitted from the opened nail polish bottles as well as from the finished product. There is a $5 deposit fee associated with this program to reserve a seat, which is returned the day of the program.

Then, on Wednesday, October 3 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm, Kirsten Parkinson, John S. Kenyon Professor of English at Hiram College, will present “It Was on a Dark and Stormy Night: The Life of Mary Shelley and the Origins of Frankenstein”. Considered one of Shelley’s most dramatic writings, Parkinson will discuss Shelley’s childhood and upbringing as well as the events which led her to the write Frankenstein while being a mere teenager.
And on the following Wednesday, October 10 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm you’ll have an opportunity to participate in an interactive workshop on tarot cards, presented by Laura Graving. Entitled “Tarot 101”, those attending this workshop will learn a brief history of tarot cards as well as various methods of interpreting them. Participants will practice interpreting a few select cards before finishing the workshop with a brief Q & A period.

You’ll leave the workshop with a basic understanding of how to read tarot cards while learning about more tools and resources to continue building a relationship with the cards.
Seating is limited for these programs, so those interested in attending should call 330-527-4378 for telephone registration or register in-person during your next visit to the library. The Garrettsville Library, a Portage County District Library branch, is located at 10482 South Street in Garrettsville.
