Annual naturalist-led wildflower walk utilizes Mandarin Chinese

Get to know the surprising variety of Ohio’s native spring wildflowers while also learning some Mandarin Chinese – or bring your existing knowledge of Mandarin Chinese to learn even more about the wildflowers of Northeast Ohio!

Naturalist Chris Mentrek looks forward to leading his annual Bilingual Chinese/English Wildflower Walk on Saturday, May 10, from 3 to 4 p.m. at Big Creek Park. No registration is required to join this interesting excursion, which will kick off from the Meyer Center and travel less than two miles, but please come prepared for the weather and uneven terrain.

“Gaining some familiarity with the foreign-language names for our local native wildflowers is a great opportunity to learn more about them,” Naturalist Chris said. “Some of us are just beginning to learn Mandarin Chinese. Some of us speak Mandarin Chinese well but are just beginning to learn about wildflowers. But most of us are imperfectly bilingual and still have something to learn about wildflowers. Regardless, we can all benefit from this program celebrating our spring beauties in the park.”
