Kirwan Dam will host clean-up of West Branch Lake as part of national program

On Saturday, September 7, volunteers from around Portage and neighboring counties will chip in to help improve West Branch Lake at Michael J. Kirwan Dam’s 4th Annual National Public Lands Day event in celebration of the 20th annual National Public Lands Day, the largest, single-day volunteer event in our country.

Participants will be asked to pick up litter throughout the park and shoreline of West Branch Lake and, in turn, will receive a hearty BBQ lunch for their efforts. Volunteers will also have a chance to win two free nights camping at West Branch State Park.

National Public Lands Day is an event that brings together thousands of volunteers from coast to coast to improve and restore the lands and facilities that Americans use for recreation, education, exercise and just plain enjoyment. Last year about 175,000 Americans participated at more than 2,200 sites throughout the country.
