ayhew Harrington. December 25,1960 – February 9, 2023. 63 years old.

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Katherine Layhew Harrington.

Kathy passed away Friday, February 9th, at her home in Boardman, Ohio.

She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to father, Ronald and mother Lorraine  (Moody) Layhew.

Kathy graduated from Boardman High School in 1978 and lived in Boardman through her adolescence and early adult years. She later moved to Chardon, Ohio where she spent more than 25 years and raised her two children. She worked for the Newbury School System for much of that time, where she was both loved and adored by many.

She had a very caring personality and loved many in her lifetime – and she was loved by many in return! She was the biological mother of two, but was also a mother figure for numerous other young adults and children who lovingly referred to her as “Mama H”.

Although her most loved passion was her family and close friends, she also enjoyed crafting, floral arranging, fishing, and stargazing.

Kathy is survived by her two sons Ryan Harrington and Blake Harrington, Grandchildren Bryce Harrington, Kaitlynn Harrington, Odin Harrington, and Cadance Harrington, and her parents Ronald and Lorraine (Moody) Layhew. She also leaves behind her sisters and brother, Sandra (James) McInnis, R. Eric Layhew and Judith Hartzell, her life partner Thomas Stepan, as well as many dearly loved nephews and nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Kathy was a kind and beautiful woman who filled the hearts of many with her thoughtful ways. She will be greatly missed.  She will live forever in the hearts of all who loved her, and they will remember her every time they gaze at the stars.

In accordance with Kathy’s wishes, a private memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please donate in Katherine’s honor to the American Cancer Society.
