Streetsboro – THRIVE, a non-profit (501c3) performing arts troupe operating in Streetsboro High School’s beautiful, 800-seat auditorium, will be staging the musical theatre production, “Jukebox Jam!” on Friday, May 17th at 7 p.m.; Saturday, May 18th at 7 p.m. and an encore, FREE matinee performance for senior citizens (60+) on Sunday, May 19th at 2 p.m.
It’s August 28th, 1963 and Sherry Davis’ 16th birthday party. Everyone who’s anyone in Crescent City, California, is invited to celebrate with Sherry & her friends at her father’s diner: “Little Jimmy’s”. The party and its aftermath are full of nostalgic jubilation, but the show is not without drama, including heartbreak and the struggle to embrace people with differences. Jukebox Jam takes audience members on a joyful journey through America’s Golden Age of Rock-n-Roll (1954-1963). This 2-hour musical theatre production features thirty minutes of fast-paced dialogue and more than 60 memorable songs from the biggest artists of the era, telling the stories of fictional teens, their parents, and a generation.
THRIVE is also hosting a classic car cruise in the Streetsboro High School parking lot on Saturday, May 18th from 3-6 p.m. prior to the 7 p.m. musical theatre show. 88.9 WSTB “Sunday Oldies Jukebox” will MC the event, and Jukebox actresses & actors (in costume) will be present to take pictures with guests.
On Sunday, guests under 60 years old may attend the 2 pm show, but must pay the standard ticket price ($12) at the door. All seniors are free for the matinee showing.
Though the organization operates in a high school, THRIVE shows are not HS productions. This is a multi-generational troupe whose powerful shows have been compared to those staged at Playhouse Square, Akron Civic Theatre, EJ Thomas Hall, etc.
