The James A. Garfield Historical Society met on February 21, 2022 to discuss the following topics :

*One more house is needed for the Christmas Walk,–number twenty–coming up in November. One property previously selected had to be withdrawn, so a replacement is being sought. The hope is to find a residence within the village, so that the event can be truly a “walk”. Those interested should contact Debbie Smith or any JAGHS member; lots of help is available. Think about it (It’s a great motivator if you’re planning some work on the house.)

*Governing board members were approved : Iva Walker–second term, Lynn Fry–first term, replacing John Zizka, term-limited out.

*The Mott Building, JAGHS headquarters, will be open on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, beginning at one o’clock p.m. refreshments available.

*Tim Smith has been placed in charge of finding volunteers for the next Oral History Night, possibly to be held in the Village Hall, in May, on a Sunday at 2:00. Have you tales to tell? Contact the JAGHS. Interested in local events with a personal touch? Stay tuned.

*A new sound system is being considered for use in larger-attendance events.

*Some new donations were described and accepted : antique demo suitcase with Garrettsville labeling, via Scott Lawless; flags & books from the decommissioned VFW; a new display case; an offer by Dave Yeagley to speak and explain his donation; a box of pictures and miscellany from Diane Kovach; stuff (that’s what it is) from John Kline.

*The group will be inquiring about being included on the downtown village electroboard displaying messages about upcoming events–get the Christmas Walk on the review.

**The group meets on the third Monday of the month in the Mott Building on Main St. at 7:00p.m. Come and check it out. Also open from 10 until 2 on the first Saturday of the month or by appointment.
