The James A.Garfield Historical Society met on November 14, 2021 in the historic Mott Building on Main St. in Garrettsville to discuss a variety of topics, among them :

  • The annual Christmas party to be held on December 13 at 6:00 p.m. at Cal’s, Sky Plaza, Garrettsville, members responsible for their own meal; good time, good food, good heavens, come on down.
  • Approval of the purchase of a speaker system for use at large gatherings and possibly noisy venues
  • Upcoming selection of board members, with one current member ineligible for re-election. Minimum number of meetings per year, anyone interested should contact President Debbie Smith.
  • Some interest in having an Oral History Night, possibly at the Village Hall, featuring local residents with long memories and interesting observations of the passing scene, as it were…stories of “what was what and who was who”( and who did what) in town for many years. Anyone interested in being a part of such a presentation should let Tim Smith know, otherwise, he may call you.
  • JAGHS has been asked to be open on Saturday, November 27, for the annual Christmas Lighting event centered at the Clocktower on High Street, from 5:00–7:00 p.m., when Santa comes to town on a fire truck.
  • Winter hours of operation : December, January, February the Mott Building will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Regularly, the hours are 10 to 2. Tours can also be arranged by appointment.
  • New members are always welcome. “Many hands make light work”, to coin a phrase, and there are always projects to be considered, depending on how much help is available.
  • Committee assignments–Collections, Membership, Windows, Programs, Audit/Budget, Christmas Walk (a biggie, coming up next year)Maintenance–are all open for volunteers in January. “All hands on deck!”
