James A Garfield Historical Society News

The November 18, 2019 meeting of the James A. Garfield Historical Society was preceded by a board of trustees’ meeting which covered a number of maintenance and financial business items later reported to the membership at the full meeting.  These included moving a CD from Home Savings to Middlefield Bank, work needed on the Mott Building’s basement steps and the need for a furnace check-up.

Other topics of interest and discussion: The annual Christmas party will be  held on December 17 at 6:00 p.m. in the newly-renovated Mill on Main St.; participant will order from the menu.  Kit Semplak will be handling the  deposit of monies for the Garrettsvillle Cemetery Association.  The update on the renovation, reorganization and refurbishment of the upstairs space was reported on and later favorably reviewed  by touring members; clothes were removed, papers relocated, a wall added, a closet cleared–a good job.  Pam Montgomery gave some information on her latest historical collection of local-related news stories which will be coming out in book form soon.      The group decided to offer thanks and a well-deserved recognition to the phantom gardener who  keeps the Louis Danku Garden next to the Mott Building in tip-top shape; a gift certificate is going out.

Christmas Walk houses for 2020 are not yet “set in stone”, but when they are, there will be a significant announcement–an EVENT–to make them known to the community.  Stay tuned.
