The James A. Garfield High School Musical Theatre department is preparing to bring the hit musical Mamma Mia! to the stage this spring, promising audiences an energetic and fun-filled performance featuring ABBA’s greatest hits. Meanwhile, the JAG Choir is looking forward to an exciting trip to New York City in November 2025, where students will have the opportunity to experience Broadway productions, participate in workshops, and immerse themselves in the rich culture of the performing arts.
To help fund both of these major events, the group has partnered with Newton Falls IGA to host a Supermarket Sweepfundraiser, offering community members the chance to win big while supporting the arts.
For $10 per ticket, participants will be entered into a drawing with three possible prizes. The first ticket drawn will determine the grand prize winner, who will have seven minutes to race through the aisles of Newton Falls IGA and fill two shopping carts with groceries. The second ticket drawn will receive a $50 IGA gift card, while the third-place winner will receive a $25 gift card.
The drawing is scheduled for April 11, and the shopping spree itself will take place on April 25 at 9:15 p.m.
During the shopping spree, the winner will be provided with two empty shopping carts and may choose one person to push the cart. However, the designated helper must refrain from touching any items and can only assist in maneuvering the cart.
To ensure fairness, a $300 limit has been placed on meat and seafood purchases, including frozen products. Additionally, certain items—including alcohol, tobacco, pharmaceuticals, and gift cards—are not eligible for the spree.
Participants will be notified when one minute remains in the seven-minute event. Any damage caused by an out-of-control cart will be the responsibility of the winner.
Tickets are available for purchase from any member of the JAG Spring Musical cast or crew. With limited tickets available, supporters are encouraged to make purchases as soon as possible to take part in the drawing.
The JAG Musical Theatre department and choir extend their gratitude to the community for its support as they prepare for their spring production and the upcoming New York trip.
