At their first regular meeting of 2025—after January’s meeting was canceled due to cold weather—the James A. Garfield Historical Society addressed the election of officers and various housekeeping matters. The newly elected officers are President Debbie Smith, Vice President Kit Semplak, Secretary Tim Smith, and Treasurer Connie Knop, with board members Lynn Fry and Barb Hardesty.

Discussions covered topics such as membership dues, insurance, maintenance, and the ongoing progress of the Mott Building sign. The society is also considering a possible summer intern from Hiram College.

Tim Smith will present an upcoming program on memories of Garrettsville Paint & Glass as a family business in the Mott Building. Additionally, the society will be sending a gift of appreciation to Pat Semplak for her continued care of the small JAGHS garden between the Mott Building and the Bonnet Shoppe.

Submissions for the Charles W. Porter Memorial Scholarship will be solicited before the next meeting. The success of the Centennial Capsule Reveal as a community event was also discussed, along with early preparations for Garrettsville’s tricentennial. See you there in 2104!
