James A. Garfield High School honored five individuals during its annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Friday, Feb. 7, at the JAG Fieldhouse. The event took place during the G-Men boys’ basketball game against the Brookfield Warriors, recognizing alumni for their athletic achievements and contributions to the school community.
The 2024 inductees include Kyle Paul (Class of 1998), Mark Apple (Class of 1981), Krista Foy (Class of 2004), Kayla Foy (Class of 2004), and Sebastian Neikirk (Class of 2012). Each was recognized for their lasting impact on Garfield athletics and school programs.
Kyle Paul (Class of 1998): Paul excelled in track and cross country, earning two state qualifications in the 800-meter event while setting multiple school records. He continued his success at Kent State University, where he also broke track records. Paul now teaches and coaches in North Carolina.
Sebastian Neikirk (Class of 2012): A standout in football and baseball, Neikirk was a two-time All-Portage Trail Conference (PTC) quarterback and the PTC Offensive Player of the Year. He holds the school record for passing yards in a single game with 389. In baseball, he was a three-time All-PTC shortstop.
Krista Foy (Class of 2004): Foy made her mark in softball and bowling. She was named First-Team All-Portage County League (PCL) in softball and played a key role in Garfield’s 2004 PCL championship. In bowling, she was a state qualifier in 2004, finishing fifth overall, and earned First-Team All-PCL honors.
Kayla Foy (Class of 2004): Foy set a school record with 56 career wins as a pitcher for the softball team. She was named First-Team All-PCL in 2002 and Second-Team in 2001, 2003, and 2004. In bowling, she qualified for the state tournament in both 2003 and 2004, placing 12th as an individual in 2003 and helping the team secure a fifth-place finish in 2004.
Mark Apple (Class of 1981): Apple is a 1981 graduate of James A. Garfield High School where he was a member of the varsity football team. Coach Apple has been actively involved with the athletic programs at JAG for years. He began coaching middle school football in 2000 where he impacted the lives of hundreds of JAG football players and set the foundation for the continued success of the program. Besides coach Mark has volunteered countless hours scouting, maintaining practice fields and helping with the stadium renovation project.
