The January 16, 2023 meeting of the James A. Garfield Historical Society opened by greeting Dave and Polly Winchell as new members and noting a request from a Civil War researcher from Kent for assistance and information on veterans of this conflict from Nelson. Dues are due; the JAGHS sign needs repair; there was a review of board of trustees members & their terms, as a meeting will be coming up. Ditto for a look at committee positions—maintenance, scholarships, budget & audit, collections, membership, window display, website, fund-raisers,etc.
Volunteers are being sought across the board…including for personnel to be in the Mott Building on the first Saturday of the month to receive/entertain/inform visitors during that “open house” time from 10 to 12 in the winter; longer hours are available as the weather warms (especially on St.Patrick’s Day & SummerFest); tentative schedule was set up. A work day for removing the Christmas decorations and re-organizing the upstairs closet was set up.
Random discussions about producing a Garrettsville book of historical pictures and about the possibility of a roundabout located at Mantua Center–John Zizka to investigate — completed the meeting.
