The January 20, 2020 meeting of the James A. Garfield Historical Society opened with the acceptance of a donation from Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Homes & Cremation Services: a 1910 cemetery deed (#517) for the late Julius Betow–most interesting, following the recent Cemetery Series presented by the society. Many thanks.
Other business included mention of dues for the Intermuseum Council and coming programs there. JAGHS items to be in the Discover Garrettsville publication will be updated. The television show featuring The Mill and its renovation will be coming in February; the recent Christmas party of the JAGHS was held there,to general approval. A CD was moved to a new bank. The furnace has been serviced; more work is needed.
New business included discussion of signing up homeowners to be on the Christmas Walk in November (final list to be announced later–with flair), recruiting delegates to attend the InterMuseum Council meetings to learn about other programs, displays & programs. The meetings are held quarterly (January, April, July, October). In February the JAGHS will present a program by Paul Brady on the Purple Heart award, its origin, standards and history (refreshment will be offered). On March 17–St. Patrick’s Day, Primary Election Day- the JAGHS will be open to the public and the regularly-scheduled meeting for March 16 will be deferred to that date.
