Honor WWII Veterans at a Tribute Dinner; Dance the night away at a USO-style dance at Century Village Museum

1518

Burton – As part of its planned commemoration of World War II, the Geauga County Historical Society is inviting the Geauga County community to join its World War II veterans for a tribute dinner Saturday evening, May 25. Following the dinner, guests are invited to “swing” back to the 1940s, with a USO-style dance.

Limited space is available for both events. The Historical Society is taking reservations for the tribute dinner at $25 per ticket. Tickets for the dance are $7.50 each. Reservations for both events will be sold separately and confirmed upon receipt of payment.

The veteran tribute dinner will begin at 5:00 p.m. at Century Village Museum’s Bond Building in Burton, capping a day of World War II-related activities on the Museum grounds.

The USO-style dance will follow in the Bond Building at 7 p.m., with live music provided by Sophisticated Swing Big Band. Brief instruction will be provided for those who wish to learn – or brush up on – a few dance steps from the period.

For tickets, contact the Geauga County Historical Society and Century Village Museum office at 440-834-1492 or email info@geaugahistorical.org. Space is limited.

In addition to the tribute dinner and USO-dance, the weekend’s WWII-related activities will include a FREE outdoor World War II-themed feature film, including authentic newsreels, presented Friday evening on the village green of Century Village Museum. On Saturday, rare World War II armament, equipment and memorabilia will be on exhibit throughout the Museum grounds. Speakers who experienced the military and civilian aspects of the war will present their personal stories throughout the day.

World War II veterans will be the guests of honor at the tribute dinner and will receive personal invitations to attend with a guest free of charge. The Historical Society is asking for help to identify the county’s World War II veterans in order to include them on the invitation list.
