Garrettsville – The March 11, 2019 meeting of the Rotary Club of Garrettsville-Hiram began with a presentation by Paula Baughman of Home Instead, offering Senior Care in Portage County and in other locales. The goal, as she outlined it, is to “Change the Face of Ageing One Senior at a Time.” It is, to some extent, a facet of “the gig economy” and involves training their caregivers almost as independent contractors to provide senior services in basic 10-hour units in such concerns as Alzheimer’s signs & symptoms recognition, meal preparation, personal services, companionship & home help, transitional care and hospice support. This is in aid of allowing seniors to remain in their homes as they age, and allowing their loved ones some peace of mind. They work with the Veterans’ Administration, with Alzheimer’s-friendly businesses, with long-term insurance situations, with CaregiversStress.com, with Alzheimer’sFamilies.com and HomeYourOwnWay.com. They are all about sharing hearts and building trust for seniors and their families.
The treasurer’s report set forth a calendar of when and to what purpose regular expenditures and incomes were allocated. There was discussion of a request from the Friends of Melana for assistance with their run/walk fundraiser during SummerFest. The 4-Way Speech Contest will be coming for local selection on March 25 . Some talk of assisting Mantua-Shalersville Rotary with a book project. A landscape designer is being enlisted for completion of the Headwaters Trail project. There were thoughts on the topic of a new fundraiser activity for the club…a run, perhaps? John Crawford reported on his attendance at the P.E.T.S. event in Columbus; it was good and encouraging.
Happy bucks ($) were offered for support for family situation, spring break, return of a truck to operation, the NGCC/Farmers’ Market Pancake Breakfast, the student exchange program, Garrettsville’s adherence to StrongTown practices, an informative grants meeting.
It’s all good!
