
As the month of June began, Hiram Police Department noted the end of an esteemed colleague’s career. On Monday, June 2nd, Hiram Police Chief Brian Gregory made his final “Out of Service-End of Shift” radio call for the final time in his career at Hiram Village. Fellow officers and Village residents wished Chief Gregory many happy retirement years with his wife Lisa and their family after many years of law enforcement service in the local community. Gregory was sworn in as Hiram Police Chief in the summer of 2017, after having served as Interim Police Chief for a year prior.
In other news, the Hiram Police Department announced the promotion of one of their own, James Clemens. Police Chief Clemens began his career with the Ravenna Police Department in 1999, then spent a decade at the Mantua Police Department as a patrolman, moving to the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority Police Department in the Patrol division, then the Community Policing, and lastly the Detective Bureau. Chief Clemens has been with the Hiram Police Department for 6 years.
In similar news, the Hiram and Garrettsville ‘Shop with a Hero’ car show event takes place this Saturday, June 14th from 9 am until 1 pm on Hayden Street in Hiram. It’s a family-friendly day where you can check out cool hot rods and classic vehicles, listen to a DJ, visit food trucks, and buy raffle tickets for door prizes to help support this worthy cause that helps bring holiday spirit to local children each Christmas.
At their last meeting, Hiram Village Council voted unanimously to move their monthly council meetings to the third Tuesday of each month. The next meeting will take place on Tuesday, June 17th at 7 pm. As always, residents are encouraged to attend.
Lastly, it was noted that Hiram’s Independence Day festivities would kick off on Thursday July 3rd at the Hiram College football field beginning at 7 pm. Fireworks are scheduled to start at 9:45 pm that evening. On July 4th, festivities begin at 9 am, starting with a softball game, followed by the HPD Bike Rodeo at 10:30 and the Grand Parade at noon. Kids’ games take place from 2-3 pm, followed at 4 pm by the Hiram Community Band concert.
