Hiram – Hiram Fire Department Assistant Chief Jason Groselle was pleased to share that Eric Mathews and Adam Wracher recently joined the Hiram Fire Department team. Both gentlemen were sworn in by Hiram Mayor Lou Bertrand prior to the regular village council meeting and welcomed by members of council.
In other Village news, Portage County residents are encouraged to participate in the Portage County District Recycling Center’s Earth Day Recycling Event on Saturday, April 22nd from 8 am until noon. Latex paint, passenger tires, and electronics will be accepted at the Portage County District Recycling Center in Kent. For more information, visit portagerecycles.com.

Lastly, village residents are encouraged to participate in the village’s annual spring clean-up event on Saturday, May 6th. Residential pick up begins at 7 am and will continue through noon.

Please note that materials need to be set at the curb by 7 am. Wooden furniture and wooden chairs will be collected. Upholstered couches and chairs infested with bed bugs need to be wrapped in plastic or they will be left at the curb. Glass portions or windows need to be removed or taped for the safety or the workers and to minimize the chance for glass to spill out of the truck onto the roadway. Please note that hazardous waste, chemicals, fuel, paint, batteries, tires, car parts, lawn mowers, metal, or tree branches over 4’ in length will not be collected.

The next regularly scheduled Council meeting takes place Tuesday, May 9th at 7 pm.
