Hiram – At their March meeting, Village Council, Police Chief Brian Gregory announced that the department’s annual Pancake Breakfast fundraiser will take place on Saturday, April 16th at Hiram College’s Dix Dining facility. The event takes place from 9 am until 1 pm, with proceeds funding the Holiday Shop with a Cop program. In addition, the department will again host a car show for the same purpose. The car show takes place on Saturday, June 11th from 9 am until 2 pm.

In other news, Chief Gregory noted that officer training has begun again, returning since Covid has somewhat abated. In the month of February, officers participated in over 15 programs,  ranging in topics from domestic violence and hate crimes to crisis intervention and brain trauma. In addition, Chief Gregory noted that body cameras were purchased using a grant that reimburses the department 75% of the expenditure. In similar news, Gregory noted that department will apply for a Hiram Community Trust grant for the Shop with a Cop 2022 program.

In his Department report, Fire Chief Bill Byers notified council that the cost of the previously discussed purchase of a new rescue squad has increased by roughly $2,000 due to supply chain issues. After clarification, council passed Resolution 2022-08, authorizing the village to purchase a 2022 Ford E450 Life Line Rescue Squad and load system for the department. To help lower the purchase cost, the Village authorized the Chief to trade in Squad One from the department’s first responder fleet.
