At an emergency meeting in December, Trustees swore in Interim Fiscal Officer Jill Corbett, Shalersville’s current Fiscal Officer. Corbett stepped in after the untimely passing of Diane Rodhe on December 8th. Corbett agreed to assist the Township until such time that Trustees could appoint a replacement.

At December’s regular Trustee meeting, which was held in the Township’s new building at 6352 State Route 82, Trustees unanimously agreed that Township Zoning Secretary Eric Hankinson should fill Rodhe’s position after January 1st, 2022. In related news, Trustees unanimously approved a motion to donate $1,000 to the Hiram Fire Department in memory of Diane Rodhe.

Moving ahead, Trustees asked Corbett to notify NOPEC of the Township’s desire to opt-out of the Green Energy Program. Trustee Jack Groselle noted that residents may choose to opt-in individually, but Township officials wouldn’t require residents to participate in the higher-cost program. In similar news, Trustees agreed to apply for the 2022 NOPEC community grant for $1,000. When received, those funds would be provided to the Hiram Fire Department.

In other news, Hal Stamm provided Trustees with an update on the punch list of items to be completed at the new building. It was determined that once all outstanding work had been completed, the Township would have a red light/beacon installed on the building’s roof to provide maximum visibility for the helipad nearby.

Once the occupancy permit has been issued, Road Services Manager Tom Matota noted that he and the crew would move the materials from the Township Hall to the new building. In addition, the team will also move Township financial materials and equipment from Ms. Rodhe’s home office as well.

Hiram Village Mayor Lou Bertrand swore in Eric Hankinson as the Township’s Fiscal Officer at a ceremony held on Sunday, January 2. At the event, Bertrand acknowledged the contributions that Rodhe had made on behalf of the Township, and congratulated Hankinson on his new position in the Township.

The next regularly scheduled Trustee meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 18th at 7 pm at 6352 State Route 82; residents are encouraged to attend.
