The meeting continued as Chief Byers gave the fire report. Byers indicated that in 2012, the Department completed 442 emergency runs, with an average response time of four minutes and thirty-eight seconds. The chief also mentioned an upcoming fundraising event his department will be hosting on March 23 at Slim & Jumbo’s in Garrettsville. Thirteen volunteers have signed up to have their heads  shaved to earn donations for St. Baldrick’s Foundation — an organization that helps fund research and support services for children with cancer. To see a list of volunteers — including Township Vice Chairman Steve Pancost, or to make a donation, visit stbaldricks.org/events. Haircuts will be provided by the professionals at the Hiram House Salon.

In other news, the Pinter family from Pioneer Trail in Hiram Township was in attendance to seek a resolution concerning a private airstrip operated by their neighbors, the Moore family.  After much discussion from both sides, a resolution was made to have Chris Meduri from the Prosecutor’s Office follow up with both parties to provide possible recommendations to the trustees.

In addition, the trustees made mention of the 2020 Comprehensive Plan — a long range guide for community and area resource management. The Plan, currently under development, will help Village officials, Township Trustees, Township Zoning Commission, Township Board of Zoning Appeals, and the College make decisions about land use, development, conservation, infrastructure and financial investments, and economic development issues in our community. A draft of the Plan is currently available at the Hiram Township website. A survey to gather information from area residents will also be available online soon.
