Hiram House Salon Celebrates 17 Years in Business

There’s a party happening in Hiram on Wednesday, November 12th that’s been 17 years in the making. That’s because this Christmas Open House, which takes place from 5 – 7 pm that day is not only celebrating another year at Hiram House Salon, but an incredible 17 years for this family-owned business. Everyone is welcome to stop in and enjoy appetizers, prizes, and product discounts – stop in to get started on holiday gifts for your loved ones or yourself.

Salon owner and Mantua resident Tammy Lingro began her cosmetology career after high school. She gained valuable experience in the decade she worked at a salon in Solon, but her career took a back seat as her family grew. She took on the role of caregiver when her mother became terminally ill. During that time, Tammy’s mom implored Tammy to use money she’d set aside on Tammy herself.

After her mother’s passing, when Tammy had the opportunity to become a partner in the salon in Hiram, she felt her mom’s blessing over the venture. On December 1st, 2008, Tammy became the sole owner of Hiram House Salon. “It feels like mom is a part of it,” she acknowledged. She noted that her mother always told her she’d come back as a dragonfly; that’s why dragonfly artwork can be spotted all around the shop. “It feels like mom is a part of this.”

And while 2008 (during a recession) didn’t seem like an ideal time to start a business, Tammy was buoyed by her mom’s faith and confidence in her. It’s that same faith and confidence she has in her daughter, Brittany. And 17 years later, what’s their secret to success? “It’s a family business that feels like home,” Brittany shared. She earned her license in 2011 and worked as a Paul Mitchell educator for five years. Brittany is the third generation in her family to work in the salon industry. Tammy’s father, Jim Brickman, ran Brickman’s Barber Shop in Euclid well into his 80s.

It was a natural decision to join Tammy in running Hiram House Salon. “I couldn’t have done this without Brit,” Tammy noted. “She says I’m her rock, but she’s mine.” She noted proudly. The mother/daughter duo welcomed stylist Sierra Greathouse over two years ago. Receptionist Lainey Thomas will be joining the team as a stylist in April, upon graduation from the Paul Mitchell School as well.

In a small shop that started with two chairs, over the years Hiram House has added four more salon stations thanks to the skill and sweat equity of her husband Rich. They’ve recently added two pedicure chairs and a new double manicure station so that friends or family members can enjoy their salon services together. In all the years that Hiram House Salon has leased the Village-owned building, they’ve remodeled and updated every customer-facing area, creating a warm environment for families and friends to gather.

“Creating relationships with clients — and being a part of their lives is something I love,” Tammy noted. She’s been with many from their initial appointments, to helping them prepare for their weddings. Hiram House is there for them when they start families; cutting their children’s hair and eventually helping them prepare for school dances. “It’s fun to see families grow,” Tammy noted.

Long-time customer Cheryl noted, “I feel like I’m with my girlfriends here. It’s warm and welcoming. And a little like therapy,” she added. Cheryl and her sons have been coming to Hiram House for years. It’s not uncommon for family members to schedule their appointments together at this family-run shop.

In addition to haircuts, color, styling, waxing, nails and pedicures, Hiram House also carries an incredible number of products, so chances are, they’ve got the one you need. The small salon is packed with Paul Mitchell and Kevin Murphy hair products, Jane Iredale makeup, Eminence Organic skincare, Halo Couture hair extensions. If you’re looking to grow your career, Hiram House is looking for another stylist.

Hiram House Salon is located at 11613 Garfield Road in Hiram. To schedule an appointment, give them a call at (330)569-3375. Visit Hiramhousesalon.com or find them on Facebook or Instagram for more information.
