Hiram – On August 31 the Hiram Police held a Hot Rod Car Show fund raiser for the “Shop with a Cop” program. The event was well attended and raised $860.00 for the program. “I was astounded by the turn out for the event, it is so nice to see many folks from all around come out and support the Hiram Police Department and our community programs” Chief Ed Samec said. The event offered First, Second, and Third place trophies for best Mopar, Ford, General Motors, Truck, Hot Rod, and best Other, also there were “Best in Show” and “Mayors Choice” categories.

“Without our sponsors for the car show, we wouldn’t have been able to make it a success, a HUGE THANK YOU to Kepich Ford, the event’s main sponsor, Village Motors, Portage Portable Toilets, Advance Auto, Charles Chevrolet, Company Front Trophies, Jason Adkins D.J.,  Hiram Gionino’s, Owl Origami, Hiram College Bookstore, Windham Hardware, Rolling Smoke BBQ, and Car Hops Burger Sauce”. Chief Samec said.

Garrettsville Mayor Rick Patrick was the event’s M.C and announcer. “This was our first Hot Rod car show and will definitely not be the last; we plan to make this an every year event”. Mayor Patrick discussed the philosophy and definition of what Chief Samec has coined, “Team Hiram”.

Team Hiram is a unity, a family, and a team. Team Hiram is everyone coming together to create a beneficial cause, everyone from police officers, community members, Hiram Mayor and Council, Hiram College, and each and every one who attends the community events and fund raisers. Chief Samec added that if not for the Team Hiram philosophy the community programs would not be a success. “It takes everyone coming together to make our programs work and being able to give back to the community the way we do. We are truly grateful for those who are grateful for what we do.” Chief Samec said.

On September 21 from 9am-2pm the Hiram Police Department will be holding its “Fill-a-Police Car” and “Pet Adoption” event. The event will be on the front lawn at the Hiram Municipal Center. The food drive portion of the event is to collect non-perishable food items to help support the 4C’s food cupboard and the Pet Adoption offers a large variety of pets that are available for adoption, there will be many animal rescues at the event.
