Hiram – In collaboration with ideastream, Hiram College will host the second annual Tech and Trek Conference June 19-21, 2019 on the College’s campus. An opportunity for all educators, the conference will explore topics such as mindful technology, mobile technology, creating high-impact student experiences, and innovations in teaching and learning.
Focused on the use of technology for educational purposes, the conference will allow higher education and K-12 educators to form and sustain a collaborative bridge; to contribute to ongoing dialogue regarding the mindful use of technology; reflect on effective technology in learning abilities; and explore the possibilities of mobile technology for learning experiences outside the traditional classroom.
All technology-focused sessions will be led by dynamic educators and technologists in the areas of augmented and virtual realities, biomimicry, digital footprints, gaming, photography and video, Google, MakerSpace, and more. The keynote address will be given by nationally recognized author and educator, Will Richardson, and hands-on workshop facilitators include Michael Mercier, president of Screen Education; Suzanne Rusnak, coordinator of mindfulness programming at University Hospitals Connor Integrative Health Network; and Catherine Bosley, former news anchor and professional speaker. Trekking sessions will also be held in the areas of farming, hiking, kayaking, meditation, and yoga.
Registration cost is $375 for individuals and includes the three-day conference, two nights in a private room in the College’s townhouses, all meals, and a conference t-shirt. Optional pre-conference training sessions will be held June 18-19 and include iPad training with the option for participants to bring their own iPad, borrow an iPad, or purchase an iPad Pro bundle; Google Certification training with the option to take the exam onsite; and Go Pro training which includes a GoPro Hero Waterproof for each participant. Pre-conference sessions are not included in the conference registration cost.
Hiram College announced its Tech and Trek program, the first 1:1 Apple mobile program for a four-year college or university in Ohio, in February 2017. Since the initial launch, all full-time traditional college students have been presented with iPad Pro bundles, helping students forge their path to a degree and understand the use of mindful technology. The college recently expanded Tech and Trek to students in the Center for Adult Studies in the Weekend College and at partnership locations including Cuyahoga Community College, Lakeland Community College, and Lorain Community College.
