Hiram – Generous Hiram College donors provided cash gifts totaling $9,835,743 to the College in fiscal year 2018 (July 1, 2017 – June 30, 2018) making this the largest fundraising year in Hiram’s 168-year history.
“We are thrilled to report that this is the third consecutive year that Hiram College has hit top fundraising levels. No three-year period in the school’s history comes close to what we have been able to record since fiscal year 2016. This achievement has been realized through the hard work of many members of my team and the impressively growing support of our devoted donors and trustees. Their donations make an immediate and positive impact on our students’ college experiences and will continue to do so for years to come,” says Lori E. Varlotta, Ph.D., president of Hiram College.
The more than $9.8 million in this year’s gifts top Hiram’s previous record-breaking fundraising year of 2016, when contributions totaled $9.3 million and last year’s second highest total when gifts exceeded $8.8 million.
Nearly $8 million of the most recent sum total came in the form of five- and six-figure gifts from hundreds of donors. In addition, the College’s third annual Hiram Giving Day, held April 30, 2018, generated more than $525,000 of this total setting its own record for the most cash raised during a single Hiram Giving Day.
Gifts for fiscal year 2018 also included a cash donation of $2 million, which is the first of three installments from Hiram College Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dean Scarborough ’77, and his wife, Janice Bini. Their $6 million multi-year gift will advance Hiram College’s New Liberal Arts initiative. Earmarked monies will support capital improvements to residence halls and science laboratories and classrooms. It will also bolster Hiram’s business offerings including the addition of a new marketing major to traditional student offerings this fall, as well as make additional technological enhancements to campus as part of Hiram’s Tech and Trek program.
Over the past three years, donors have collectively given $28 million dollars in cash gifts to Hiram. Equally impressive, says Varlotta, is that “the contributions of time and expertise rival the levels of financial support. Hiram is beloved by many, and it shows!”
