Hiram College is pleased to announce that it has again been recognized as an Apple Distinguished School for 2022–2025 for the leadership and educational excellence it has demonstrated in using technology to enhance teaching and learning.
Apple Distinguished Schools are centers of innovation, leadership, and educational excellence. They use Apple technology to inspire creativity, collaboration and critical thinking in learning, teaching and the school environment, and have documented results of academic accomplishment.
“We are proud to be recognized once again as an Apple Distinguished School,” said David Haney, Ph.D., president of Hiram College. “Our faculty and students continue to find new ways to use iPads for learning, research, and real-time interactions that contribute to the experiential education that Hiram provides to all students.”
The selection of Hiram College as an Apple Distinguished School highlights the college’s success as an innovator and a compelling learning environment that engages students and provides tangible evidence of academic achievement. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the college’s Apple technology program allowed Hiram students to pivot to online learning in a matter of days, since faculty and students were both equipped with the same devices. The pandemic also revealed many inequities and by giving students equal access to the same devices, the college was able to eliminate at least one obstacle to accessing the technology needed for online learning. As the college continues to focus on meeting students where they are, in line with the social responsibility that is embedded in the core values, inclusive access for all students will continue to be a primary focus of the Apple technology program.
Furthermore, Hiram’s education is highly experiential and provides intentional opportunities for reflection. Moving forward, an important piece of the Apple technology program will be to provide seamless opportunities for students to reflect on what they experience through their classes, internships, research projects, and other experiential learning opportunities alongside conversations about the mindful use of technology.
