The Garrettsville-Hiram Rotary Club’s May 6, 2024 meeting was characterized by engaging discussions covering a range of topics. These included plans for the upcoming presentation of the G-H Rotary Scholarship at the Garfield Senior recognition night on May 13, ongoing efforts to recruit players, workers, and sponsors for the Rotary Golf Outing scheduled for June 21 (with forthcoming distribution of flyers), and the consideration of a new Rotary pin design. The design would serve multiple purposes, including distribution by our outgoing exchange student during their travels, for current members, and for inclusion in a new time capsule. Additionally, there was no significant update on the progress of the Tom Collins Memorial Walking Trail, and as of yet, there have been no submissions for the Windham Street Bridge Abutment Mural Design Contest. However, the contest remains open to all, and efforts will be made to involve younger individuals by disseminating more information to local schools.

During the meeting, the group also decided to contribute to the Portage Foundation to aid Windham residents affected by the recent tornado. Other matters under consideration included the potential installation of directional signs for the Renaissance Center in Windham and the exploration of a program ensuring the availability of epipens in local schools and public spaces, which may lead to future project initiatives.

Members shared “Happy Bucks” moments, including heartwarming anecdotes such as a memorable cat story, a successful and incident-free fishing trip, a grandson’s endearing wake-up call, appreciation for direction provided during a special meeting, and pride in a son’s recent employment with an engineering degree.
