It is a strange feeling to be introducing myself this way. I have never been one to announce my presence in such a public fashion that is exactly what I am doing. For the last two-and-a-half years I have gotten to know the inner workings of Geauga County while also remaining familiar with my home Cuyahoga County while scribing for The Chagrin Valley Times.
Now here I am starting fresh in an entirely new community in Portage County as I am starting out as the new staff reporter for The Weekly Villager.
After leaving the CVT earlier this summer, I was unsure of where my next writing gig would come from. Freelancing is one thing but finding a full-time writing position at a newspaper is one of the hardest things to do.
Thankfully, my search is over and look forward to what awaits me as I continue my writing career in Portage County.
I could almost chuckle, because you could say I am now in enemy territory given that Portage County is home of Kent State University, the MAC rival of my alma matter Ohio University but that’s the way life goes sometimes.
I fully embrace my role as a newcomer to Portage County but I am also eager to learn about what this community has to offer. I am excited to provide sports coverage to the community for some of the local schools.
After working as a sports editor at the CVT for the past two-and-a-half years, I am excited to bring my experience to The Weekly Villager but also hone my craft as a reporter, covering local topics.
While I may not say much in person, I let my writing do all of the talking for me. It will take me awhile to become familiar with Portage County but I hope that this community can accept me as willingly as I am to accept them in this new chapter of my life.
I also would like to give thanks to Michelle Zivoder and Ben Coll for giving me this opportunity to continue my career and cannot wait to get started.
