Harold E. “Hopie” Hope, 97, formerly of Garrettsville, OH, went home to Heaven on Thursday, December 14, 2023; blessed to have passed peacefully in his sleep while under the comfort care of Miracle City Hospice while at Eden Vista of Stow. Hopie was born June 27, 1926, in Claridon, OH, to the late Carl and Vera (Wood) Hope.
He was a proud veteran of the US Army, where he served as a Sergeant Major from 1944-1946. Hopie was a retiree from Duracote Corporation in Ravenna, OH, and a member of the VFW #1055, also in Ravenna, OH. He enjoyed bowling with his sons-in-law, sitting in his yard under the trees to feed the birds, and spending time with his family.
Hopie will be deeply missed by his children, Harold A. Hope, of Mogadore, OH, Marie Franze, of Mogadore, OH, Debbie (Keith) Brannen, of Rootstown, OH, Sandie (Frank) Reed, of Howland, OH, Beth (Dennis) Channel, of Windham, OH, and Alana Thoren, of Garrettsville, OH; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren, and many nephews, nieces, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Janet Hope, and sister-in-law, Corrine Neal.
Per Hopie’s wishes, he is to be cremated. He will be privately buried at a later date in Windham Township Cemetery, where he will rest with his wife, Janet.
