Ravenna – How many golfers does it take to change a light bulb? Fore!

What is a golfer’s favorite letter? Tee!

Why did the golfer have an extra pair of socks? In case he got a hole-in-one!

Now that I have thoroughly introduced you to the ‘Lingo 101’ let me educate you on the swinging good time going down Friday, August 23 at Windmill Lakes Golf Club. Whether you play like a pro or just enjoy a good Arnie Palmer as your beverage of choice, come out to join the Ravenna Chamber for its Annual Golf Outing from 10am-5pm.

In recent months it has been observed that Ravenna is on the rise, thanks to many new businesses with conscientious employers and staff. So, it is no surprise that the Chamber would like to host this golf outing as a break for those involved in the development of our community.

Your business golf “Break” includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, lunch, beverages and awesome steak dinner to top it off after you hit the links. It is $400 for a group of four, $110 per golf player or the option to just come and have a great dinner is $25.

Not to mention there will be contests and prizes! Yay! There will awards sponsored by the Hole In One International group. All participants will receive a certificate for a free golf club. Prizes will be awarded based on skill level, each guest will get a raffle ticket to enter for a drawing and there will be a 50/50 raffle that benefits the Ravenna High School Scholarship Fund (which is funded by the chamber), explained Ryann Kuchenbecker, Executive Director for the Chamber.

If you’re interested in playing a round on the fairways, then now is the time! There are only a few slots left for you or your foursome to get out on the greens. Grab your clubs and then run, don’t walk, to www.ravennaareachamber.com to purchase your slots online so you can be punctual for your tee time.

Dustin Basch of Don Basch Jewelers said this is an annual event he looks forward to because it is a way to entertain clients, get out of the office and network with other area businesses. “It is a no-brainer or an Eagle,” he said, using a golf term to explain the allure of the outing. The term Eagle, when applied to golf, usually occurs when a player hits the ball far enough to reach the green with fewer strokes than expected.

Basch jokingly said he is not an avid golfer, but is an avid scrambler. A scramble in golf is a group of four players and each takes a shot at every hole. The best shot is the one that is recorded so the foursome hypothetically functions as one player. Don Basch Jewelers typically purchases the Corporate Caddy Sponsorship ticket for the event which, in addition to all the other goodies, also includes advertising. He said, “It is an excellent value being offered for a great day out.”

For those interested corporate sponsorships are available for $500 and to sponsor a hole on the course is $100.

“Proceeds raised by the Golf Outing will go toward future Area Chamber of Commerce events and programs,” stated Kuchenbecker.

There is a phrase that goes ‘You drive for show, but putt for dough.’ Basically, the long shots are all well and good, but it is the chipping, pitching and putting with your irons that make all the difference in your short game. One small step forward builds the foundation for a thriving community and this golf outing represents a hole-in-one for Ravenna.
