Well, mostly.
The annual Rummage Sale at the Garrettsville Family YMCA has moved off into the history books…well, books of some sort anyway (There really are people who keep track of such things, I guess.). Now comes the clean-up, empty-out, back-to-normal phase–which could take a little longer. Thanks to all of the shoppers who came, saw, and made off with boxes, bags, piles and bundles of all kinds of things–just what they had been looking for, no doubt. That was me in one , no, two cases; I found a type of pie pan which I had been looking for and a set of Pyrex mixing bowls which are entering into their ”antique” phase ( I had the whole set once-upon-a-time but managed to break the most-used sizes). The pie pan has a sort of gutter around the rim–in case of boil-overs to keep the oven floor from becoming a cherry-pie tar source suitable for patching roads…not that I ever have a pie boil over (usually it’s more likely to be just flames).
Anyway, folks have to decide what mind-set to go with : shop early to get the best selection of the vast collection of goods on offer…OR…wait until the second day and make off with tons of stuff (that’s a technical term) at WAY bargain prices–bagfuls. Lotta good things went out the door at, basically, ”what’s it worth to you” prices. Plenty of kids–and grown-ups–got play clothes, school clothes, jammies, books and toys which they mightn’t have been able to afford at regular retail. And a lotta people cleared out (kinda) their closets, attics, garages and hidey-holes where things had been just sitting for Godonlyknows how long (some of it should have gone long ago–shoulda looked at the dates and models out there on the tables. Do electronic gizmos become antiques or just trash? Recycle !
So…thanks to all who shopped; thanks to all who donated the merchandise; big time thanks to all who came in to set up and work and to take down–there was a TON of it and it all has to go someplace, for the sale and after. It’s all got to be picked up and taken away–pickleballers and yoga-ites must have their spaces. Still want to get that one special item that you just could not bring yourself to haul home and are now regretting it? Talk to Kim, maybe she’ll cut you a deal…as long as you haul it home yourself. Or if you know of somebody who could be helped by the leftovers–let’s make a deal.
We’ll look for you all next year, all of ”the usual suspects”.
For all of “the usual” reasons.
