While people shelter at home and many businesses have shifted their workforce to their homes, local business GlueTread is quietly and efficiently shipping orders across the country. “GlueTread is a family-owned business that was quite literally started in our garage,” local entrepreneur Dave Auble shared. He explained that he and his family grew up riding ATV’s and enjoying the outdoors together. So when the opportunity arose to start a business around these passions, he and his son Andy jumped in with both feet.
Blending Dave’s engineering background and Andy’s background in developing products for big-box retailers, the team became a company called GlueTread in early 2018 with the introduction of a traction repair kit, which allows users to literally glue new treads to add life to tractor, ATV, and other off-highway tires. The product allows users to save time and money, extending the life of tires that previously would have needed to be replaced.
Recently, they’ve introduced a brand-new product — an External Patch Kit — that allows users to repair slices, punctures, and sidewall damage on any tubeless tire. As an added benefit, the repair can be done in the field with no need to remove the damaged tire from the vehicle.
Tire damage is inevitable; Dave noted that the low price point (under $15) encourages users to keep a kit on hand on their tractor, ATV or UTV like a first-aid kit, to make a repair anywhere they may need it. After a quick repair and some curing time, the tire is ready to go in roughly an hour, compared to a much costlier service call that can interrupt planting or harvesting for days, or the time and trouble of towing an off-road vehicle back for repair.
“We were excited about the tread product, but this is way bigger!” Dave marveled. “The ability to repair an off-road, tubeless tire in the field is huge.
