GFN Joint Fire District Awarded Grant

1835

Garrettsville – The Garrettsville Freedom Nelson Joint Fire District has been awarded a FEMA grant. This grant was applied for by in-house personnel in March during the request cycle.

FEMA has awarded us a grant to purchase new Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).

The grant consists of $162,674.29 of federal funds and our share of $8,133.71. The grant will be used to purchase 24 new SCBA’s, 48 SCBA air cylinders, and 32 SCBA face pieces. The new equipment meets current regulations and is compliant with the National Fire Protection Agency’s guidelines.

The new SCBA’s will replace our current SCBA inventory which was also purchased using a FEMA grant in 2007. In 2007, 26 SCBA’s were purchased, 11 of which are out of service, due to being beyond repair. The 52 SCBA air cylinders that were purchased at this time expire in May 2021.
