George Leslie Macek 78, died peacefully in his sleep at home on June 5, 2021. He was born on October 3, 1942, to George and Ann Macek. As a native of Garrettsville, he was an extraordinary man who touched the lives of his family, friends, and community. 

He was an entrepreneur, with his career beginning in the construction business before moving to the amusement industry, after he and a friend invented the world famous “Frog Bog”. After years of making award winning wines, he and Cheryl opened Silver Cellar Winery out of their home. 

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years Cheryl (Jacobson); Children: Greg (Judy), Darrin (Tracy), and Lesley (Dominic) Layer; Grandchildren: Gregory Macek, Alexander (Diana) Macek, Chelsea (Kevin) Macek, Zachary (Angelita) Macek, Travis (Emily) Macek, Kaitlyn Layer, and Julia Layer; Great Grandchildren: Alexander, Ilyanah, Lailyn, Peri, Leni, Alba, and Gabriel; Sisters: Carole King and Deanna Hill; Family pet and Silver Creek Cellar mascot, Max. 

Please join the family on Thursday, June 10, 2021, from noon to 3 PM to celebrate George’s life at Sugar Bush Golf Course, 11186 OH-88, Garrettsville, OH. Dr. Michael E. Carlson will officiate a tribute at 3 PM. Arrangements for George were entrusted to Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Garrettsville, Ohio.
